The Long and the Short of it.
I also follow a lot of other people's blogs (see my favourites there on the right) and a whole bunch of cat blogs. Yesterday, one of the cat blogs run by a pair of sisters who foster cats reported that a cat that had been adopted out to two sisters had been taken to the AVA (kind of like animal control) by the father of the girls who had adopted the cat. The reason was that the kitten had been going to toilet inappropriately. The conclusion to the story was that the father told the people at AVA that the kitten was a stray, and the AVA people going with this information and following protocol put the kitten to sleep before the Fostering Sisters could rescue the kitten. It's just appalling, I know.
I don't know the Fostering Sisters, I don't know the Adopter Sisters, I don't know any of them, but I got to know their animals through the Fostering Sisters blog. This kitten was not even a year old. The Adopter Sisters had arranged a new home for the kitten because of the complaints from the father.
The news of what happened broke my heart. It brought back that familiar feeling of why some things in Singapore are so bad, so ignorant, so wrong. How some mentalities still have not changed. To think that the father did that to his own daughters is probably the worst part of the story. I believe that the daughters are lost to the father now, I can't even imagine how that feels.
We had dogs all growing up and we never treated them like property. Many of my schoolmates in primary school, even secondary school never had pets and were afraid. Afraid of dogs and cats, other peoples pets. Granted, one should always be cautious around animals you are unfamiliar with, the fear that was instilled in those people was something else. As you know, fear can make people do things they normally wouldn't.
I know not all people from Singapore are not like that, obviously, I'm not and I'm from there. I know many people who are not. Everytime I go back though, it becomes more apparent why I left and why I will probably never go back. It's a shame. I love my country but I just don't like it.

Good news.
Things are looking up!
And in other news...
As the winner, Ellis will receive a 2006 Ford Mustang as part of a $100,000 gift package. She also wins jewelry, cash and a mink coat.A mink coat? In Texas? In Houston, Texas? Why? It's just wrong on all the levels you can think of.
Oz vs. Italy
Oi oi oi!
::update::
Oh for flip's sake! What kind of rubbish is this? Italy scored in the bloody 95th bloody minute. Australia is going home. urgh.

I guess that means I'm still in the running and they haven't decided.
I'm off for the weekend and a very large glass of shiraz.

This one's for you
OK, so Dot said that if I commented on her post, then she would do it about me and then I had to post it on my blog.
And so, I think the point is, if anyone comments on this post then I do the list on them. I think that's right. Here's what the beautiful and lovely Ms. Dot said about me:1. I’ll respond with something random about you
—DH!
2. I’ll challenge you to try something
—Join a band (Or have you?)
3. I’ll pick a colour that I associate with you
—Red.
4. I’ll tell you something I like about you
—You’ll go to bat for someone you’ve never met. (Thanks for your help with the letters!)
5. I’ll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
—Hmmm. Kinda hard since we’ve never met, but I remember the first post I read about DH’s film!
6. I’ll tell you what animal you remind me of
—Cat.
7. I’ll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
—What do you do?
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours
—Over to you!
The most horrible thing
And then, and then a giant cockroach whooshed back in with the water and was in the toilet bowl furiously swimming.
Oh. My. God.
I just stood there with my hand over my mouth, squeaking, waiting for the water to fill up in the tank. Anyone one who knows me, knows that I am insanely phobic. The thought of that beast in the toilet while I was using it is making me rock slowly in my chair right now. As soon as the tank filled up, it's a very quick tank, thank goodness, I flushed the beast away. For good.
Awful. just awful.

Update, update!
inhale.
exhale.
All for now.
The wait is on
Well, the middle is today.
And so I'm waiting, waiting.
While we're waiting, here's a funny story. Picture it if you will. I am in the kitchen, looking in one of the cupboards for a can of Tuna. I don't see any cans of tuna, just one can of chicken. I ask DH if we have any tuna and he says we do. I'm moving boxes of pasta, cans of beans looking for some tuna. Then I realise I've just done a Jessica Simpson. This is what I was looking at.

The lastest on the job hunt
Went for the 2nd interview on Friday, which I feel went fairly well. Then had a hands on test of sorts which I did the best I could in the time allotted. It's very subjective and one can only hope for the best.
I am hopeful.
They told me that the earliest I might hear from them would be in the middle of this week. I've sent my thank you notes and now I'm going to have to maintain my sanity until then. That in itself is hard enough to do without the extra stress. Keep ya fingers crossed for me.
Oh, and I had all but 2 green lights on the way to the interview. What does that mean? City of Houston traffic lights lack synchronization?

Viva FIFA
Hello?
::crickets::
This is the WORLD CUP.
I'm not able to watch it live because of the time difference, and apparently none of the radio stations are carrying it. I spent half and hour on Monday trying to find the USA vs. Czech Rep. on the radio while driving. I finally found something on the AM band, in Spanish, that sounded like it could be a football broadcast. I kept waiting to hear certain keywords like GOL!!!! or futbol, but I never did and I still don't know if what I was listening to was even a football game, nevermind USA vs. Czech Rep.
I need to brush up on my Spanish here. Especially here in Texas.
Seriously.
The only way for me to follow what's going on live is to go to fifaworldcup.yahoo.com and read the live matchcasts. Not the best, because I really want to see it, you know, not read it.

After
Back from the interview. It went well. Now I have the agony of having to wait to see if I will be called back. They will notify shortlisted candidates on Monday or Tuesday. Seems a bit anticlimatic now that it's over. I must remain positive. On the way to the interview, I had all green lights. Now that must be a good sign.
The Beginning
Today!
Yay!
I'm just bouncing off the walls here in anticipation.
