Spelling, spelling

I'm a bad speller. I once had a teacher tell me that I was an enigma in that my grammar is better than my spelling. I'm not sure if that was a compliment. I blame my mother on my ineptitude for spelling. It's hereditary, she is a very smart lady but a terrible speller. I get confused with the e i thing; relieve, receive; it's all very confusing to me.

Some things I know how to spell.

I know how to spell (and pronounce) quay.

I know how to spell queue.

I know how to spell bouquet.

I'm slightly appalled at the misspellings that I've come across lately. And I'm not even talking about the flavour/flavor, honour/honor spelling conflict. I've come across certain misspellings over and over and over that I've had to stop and ask, "Is that the American spelling of that word?" because I don't spell that word like that.
